Jimmy Moore who is the blogger at Livin' La Vida Low-Carb has made a nice post about this blog. I would like to return the favor and take a little about Jimmy and his blog.

I first heard about Jimmy while surfing through the low-carb books at Amazon. As mentioned previously I have backslid from my low-carb lifestyle and have been looking for inspiration to get back on it. While many I am sure have been impressed with my 100lbs+ weight loss, I don't hold a candle to Jimmy and his story.

Jimmy shed 180 pounds from his 6'3" frame in a years time. He went on to write a very highly reviewed book entitled: Livin' La Vida Low-Carb: My Journey From Flabby Fat To Sensationally Skinny In One Year (You can buy it here or on Amazon).

Jimmy's blog is one of the top 5 blogs listed on Google if you search on "Low Carb Blogs". That in it's self is impressive giving the shear number of Low-Carb blogs there are on the Internet today. His blog offer's great insight into the low-carb lifestyle and he provides accurate and intelligent rebuttals to low-carb detrators.

So swing by his blog and give him a shout. Don't be like me though, I read his blog for weeks before finally posting for the first time tonight.

Can you run on fewer carbs?

If you are a runner or have thought about running, most likely you have read the magazines or spoken with other runners. When the subject of dieting and running comes up, you may have heard it said that runner's need carbs.

As a runner that lost a great deal of weight Livin' La Vida Low Carb as Jimmy Moore puts it, I can for one say that yes, you can run on a low carb lifestyle. And even better you can excel at the sport of running.

There is a new book out by Dr. Loren Cordain and Joe Friel called The Paleo Diet for Athletes that dives into the subject of a low carb, high protein diet that works great for runners.

So as I hope to show over future blog postings you too can because a Low Carb Runner.

Welcome to the Low Carb Runner Blog.

Almost two years ago I weighed 315 pounds. In December of 2003 I decided to change my eating habits and start exercising. In December 2003 I couldn’t walk hundred yards without breathing hard. By December 2004 I had ran in multiple 5k races all of which with sub 30 minute finishes. I was down to 214 lbs, and even managed for a month or so to get down to 210 by March of 2005.

In March I started a new job that had me working twelve hour shifts at midnight. This started my sliding back on my achievements. At first it was just cutting back going to the gym, though I would still run at least 5k every three days or so. Then in May of 2005 I had decided to catch back up on my routine. I had decided to get back into the swing of things and started running 5k everyday and got a new bike to help give my workout more diversity.

Two days after buying my new bike I got to take it out for a spin down the gravel lane behind my house. I hadn’t rode it more than 20 minutes total when the bike’s front wheel came off causing me to fling headfirst into the rock hard ground. The bike wasn’t put together correctly by the retail center I bought it from. I was knocked out and don’t remember anything until the next day.

The following day my wife woke me up and told me what happened. I had some severe facial injuries and nearly had lost my eye when my glasses broke as I hit the ground. Other than facial scarring I had a pretty severe next strain that lasted for months (and still somethings hurts). It was nearly two months before I was in shape again to start my cardio.

But I did start it again to an extent in July. But by this time I had gotten used to not working out as much and lost my edge and wasn’t training like I should. Then in September my wife gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. So for almost two months afterwards I did very little exercising as I wanted to be with them every moment I could.

For the past three months my eating habits have returned to a level while still well under what they were prior to Dec. 2003, have brought back nearly 15 pounds of weight. It wouldn’t have been as bad had my exercising not dropped as well.

So here I am putting on the weight again that I worked so hard over the past two years to rid myself of. Everyday I have told myself tomorrow I will start back on my diet and exercise routine. Of course that day always gets pushed back. I get mad at myself for not having the willpower to startover again like I should. I keep making excuses such as I don’t have time or don’t feel like it.

A little over a month ago I was diagnoised with a fairly severe case of Sleep Apnea. For a couple weeks now I have started on CPAP therapy and starting to feel better overall. So what better time to really get real with my health improvement again than now? I say I don’t have time yet I find time to watch dozens and dozens of hours of TV shows each week. I say that I want to diet yet I buy ice cream and cookies and use the excuse that they are for my wife, yet I am the one that hogs them. I use the excuse that I can’t get away to Gym because I watch am watching my daughter, yet there are a number of hours each day that my wife is watching her not me.

So starting 12/18/05 I am going back on low carb lifestyle. This blog will track this journey.
